Outdoor and Environment education: Budapest, the city of water – sustainable drinking water and water pollution prevention

In 2015 the 193 members of the United Nations agreed to achieve 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Students needs to prepare for the real challenges what they will face during they life in this century and the schools have to be ready for teaching the tools what they need to solve the problems. Out of this goals we would like to address the issues of the clean water and sanitation (goal 6) and avoid the plastic bags to keep the oceans safe and clean (goal 14).

As we know adequate water supply is a huge problem around the world, Hungary however rich of this precious resource. What are the challenges of the countries who has no water sources problem as yet? How to preserve and keep clean the water supply for further generation? Are we all responsible to keep the ocean clean?

The complex sustainability issue of water educations in schools is often neglected, we do teach kids to turn of the water when not in use, or take a shower instead of having a bath. These solutions are good start, but we need to show the whole cycle of water in the ecosystem, see where the water coming from, how the wastewater is treated and what damage we already caused for the environment of our own comfort.
